 Season 3 of the vampire diaries introduced us to the rest of Klaus and Elijah’s family¸ the originals. Mikael, Esther, Rebekah, Kol and Finn. In the episode “ordinary people” we discovered how and why they became vampires. But for me and quite a lot of other fans that wasn’t and still isn’t enough!
Ordinary people left me with more questions than answers and surely as season 3 has progressed there are still questions being added to an already overflowing list! These characters that we have all unexpectedly fallen in love with were the very first vampires in existence; if it wasn’t for these vampires then the other vampires throughout the show would simply not exist!!
If you have watched interviews and read tweets from Daniel Gillies and Joseph Morgan who play Elijah and Klaus (to perfection I might add), then you will know they have been pushing for an originals spin-off for quite some time. And judging by a lot of twitter conversations I have had over the last week a lot of the fans love the idea and think it should happen! So below are some of the reasons why I think the originals deserve and need a spin-off enjoy my lovelies :)
What were they like as humans?
We know how the originals act as vampires but what were they like when they were human? We have already glimpsed Klaus, Rebekah and Elijah as human (not enough personally), but what about Kol- was he always so mischievous and eager to break the rules? What about Finn – we all know he loathes being a vampire, but what are his reasons? Where were Kol and Finn when Mikael killed their siblings? What was their relationship like with their father, did they fear him as much as Klaus? There are so many questions about the newly introduced siblings, I would love to see more scenes showing their family dynamic!
 Henric
Even though we did see Henric in “ordinary people” we only saw a glimpse of him being carried in a stricken Klaus’ arms bloodied and dying. The only thing we can surmise from the very brief glimpse is he liked to get in trouble, what with him and Klaus sneaking off to see the wolves on a full moon, which unfortunately ended in tragedy. Personally I think information about Henric is deserved! Especially when you consider that with his death he was the
catalyst for Esther at Mikael’s urging to turnhis family into the very same vampires we love today!
Why did Klaus dagger Kol and Finn?
This question has filled me with a burning curiosity as to why Kol (Nathaniel Buzolic) and Finn (Casper Zafer) ended up being carted around in coffins by Klaus. We already know that Klaus doesn’t take betrayal lightly, something Elijah found out when Klaus plunged a dagger in his heart in “as I lay dying”. Any Klaus fan will know that Klaus loves his family and a lot of his actions are driven by a fear of loneliness , that’s the reason why he carted his family around in coffins, even if he did dagger them he still loves them and in his own twisted way it was a way for Klaus to keep his family together so he would never be alone, and when Rebekah chose to leave him to be with Stefan in “the end of the affair” Klaus daggered her to stop her from leaving. What I and a lot of people want to know is why Klaus daggered Finn and Kol? Did they each betray him in their own way or did they threaten to leave him? There are so many different scenarios as to why Klaus daggered his siblings and I want to know why!
The original love triangle
Ever since Tatia was mentioned in “bringing out the dead” quite a few people have wanted to see the original love triangle in a flashback! There is no doubt that Elijah and Klaus loved Tatia (you only have to look at their faces when they are reminiscing). We know how the love triangle ended with Tatia’s blood being used to turn them into vampires, but how did the love triangle begin? Even though Klaus and Elijah recognised that the bonds of family were more important than their shared love for Tatia I would still like to see how they both fell in love with her and what made them decide family above all?
The start of a war to span a thousand years
As we all know Klaus is born from a werewolf bloodline. I am curious about Klaus’ biological father and his family. There are so many questions surrounding our favourite hybrids natural father, like for instance what was his name? Did Klaus have any other siblings? Does Klaus share the same characteristics as his natural father? And what possessed Esther to get it on with another man? especially with a domineering husband like mikael! We know mikael slaughtered Klaus’ real father and his family once he found out about Esther’s indiscretion, which resulted in a war between werewolves and vampires that, still lasts to this day. It may only seem a little part of Klaus’ history but it is a fundamental part of why mikael treated Klaus the way that he did, I for one would love to have seen how Klaus’ natural father acted with his own family and I wonder if that would have made a difference in Klaus’ life if he had a father figure who loved him!
This enigmatic group of vampires have been around for a thousand years, there are so many stories to explore and tell. The possibilities are endless and I would love to see the originals with their own show and if it was ever made I would be the first to tune in and watch the origins of a family that have stolen our hearts, After all, They are The Originals and they deserve some respect.
